Counselling models & theories

Cynthia’s therapeutic philosophy is strongly based on the theories of Carl Rogers, a Humanist psychologist who helped found the Client-Centred School of Psychotherapy. Three major tenets are the signposts for building a strong therapeutic bond between therapist and client: unconditional positive regard; empathy; and congruence (authentic self).

Theories that constitute Cynthia’s eclectic therapy approach include:

  • Client-Centered Psychotherapy

  • Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (trained therapist)

  • Crisis Intervention

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

  • Motivational Interviewing

  • Mindfulness

  • Psychoeducation

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Attachment Theory

  • Meditation & Guided Imagery
